Flex Workshop Part II at the IECFUG

Just a reminder that we will have our monthly CFUG at the IECFUG this Thursday. We will have Kalen Gibbons again doing his awesome Flex Workshops.

More info here: http://www.iecfug.com/post.cfm/july-meeting-new-flex-workshop

Flex Workshop at the IECFUG with Kalen Gibbons

Our July CFUG meeting is coming up shortly, and by popular demand we have once again arranged to have Kalen Gibbons (Flex Guru) lead another hands-on workshop on Flex. For those who missed it, his first Flex workshop back in November of last year was a fantastic session, and served as a great introduction to RIA development using the Flex framework. This time around Kalen will be covering connecting to a ColdFusion back end from a Flex application.

Please see here the iecfug press release- http://www.iecfug.com

At this point we are intending to hold the meeting next Thursday, July 9th, at the regular time of 7:00 pm. It is possible that this may change, as our sponsor at Cal Poly will be on vacation, so we are currently trying to nail down the details of when a substitute will be available. For the same reason, the room location for the meeting is still undecided -- we will post the final details once they are available.

We will have the usual pizza, soft drinks and our book raffles!! We look forward to seeing everyone there!

We have exciting news! Adobe is embarking upon a world-wide tour of user groups to publicize the next versions of ColdFusion and Flex, as well as the first releases of Bolt and Flash Catalyst, two new tools for developing ColdFusion and Flex applications. We have been selected, IECFUG, as a stop on the tour, and our event will be held on Tuesday, June 16th at 7:00 PM in room P2-7 of the C/L/A building at Cal Poly Pomona.

Josh will be speaking about what's coming up in both the ColdFusion and Flex realms, so this promises to be a jam-packed session:

Learn about exciting new features and discover how Centaur and Bolt will accelerate your ColdFusion application development.

Come learn about the newest features in the Flex 4 framework, Flex Builder 4 and the newest Adobe product -- Flash Catalyst. See product feature demos, and learn how the new Flex framework powers both Flash Catalyst and Flex Builder to speed the development and testing of rich Internet applications and content.

Review of Flex vs Silverlight Debate at Cal Poly Pomona

I completely forgot to post about this and post a link to the event we hosted at Cal Poly Pomona last month between Adobe and Microsoft. The debate was excellent and we had great attendance for the IECFUG. We where able to get more students and interest in our ColdFusion User Group and hopefully get to recruit some more after an awe inspiring presentation by Kevin Hoyt.

Unfortunately, I won't say anything bad about Microsoft because I won a copy of Vista Ultimate! :) (hmm, what did I do with it?)

If you want to see the video for yourself and see how the debate was laid out see who won, check this link out:
