Enabling root user in Leopard

As you might have found out, the netinfo manager is now no more in leopard. So how do we enable the root user instead of always typing sudo. Well just do the following:

1. From the Finder's Go menu, choose Utilities.

2. Open Directory Utility.

3. Click the lock in the Directory Utility window.

4. Enter an administrator account name and password, then click OK.

5. Choose Enable Root User from the Edit menu

6. Enter the root password you wish to use in both the Password and Verify fields, then click OK.

And there you go, we now have root access.

j.g. owen

I just did that (in Leopard), and in terminal window

>su password:[enter password I just gave] su:Sorry

I.e., doesn't work. Also sudo doesn't seem to work either.

That seems weird j.g.

I have tried it in two machines and same effect. if Sudo is not working for you, it seems that something is really messed up then.

The easiest way is:

sudo passwd
