I need Hosting Advice?

I currently have my domains and setups on www.dailyrazor.com hosting. However, it has come to my attention they will disable CreateObject() features, which seems ridiculous. Being preventive, I would like to ask what hosting companies you recommend. One of the requirements I have is that I can be able to host multiple domains under the same account. I can create different domains and subdomains and databases.

Any recommendations?

Hi Luis,

I have been using CrystalTech for more than 5 years now and never had any issues. I have actually asked them to upgrade me to the CF8 Server plan earlier today and I have already gotten personal response from the engineer in charge of the upgrade. The service is very reilable, affordable and full featured.

Good Luck,

Luis Majano

Thanks Phill, I will take a look at it.

This is horrible news! I host with dailyrazor and did not see an email about this. Could you forward to me please? I have been planning on moving my blog to my VPS account but I wasn't in a real big hurry...guess this changes that...

Hi Todd, My friend Oscar Arevalo just got all his sites break down because of this. They did not even email him about it. I am freaking out on it too!! Their website was changed today saying they will no longer provide

CFCONTENT CFEXECUTE CFLOG CFOBJECT CFREGISTRY Functions: CreateObject CreateObject(COM) CreateObject(CORBA) CreateObject(Java) CreateObject(WebService)

Which to me!! That is the entire subset of functions and tags I use!!

Luis,

Just wanted to follow up that Crystaltech just sent me a notice that my upgrade was done. I didn't experience any downtime while they moved my entire account/site from a cf 7 server to a cf8 server.

Cheers..

I host with Daily Razor as well and cannot believe that they would just turn functionality that many of their clients rely on off without any notice whatsoever. I have several sites with them at this point and it is going to be a nightmare to to move them. Let me know who you end up going with. Thanks...

A well-rounded VPS account can be found at fusionapps.net. Full control.

I got an email from dailyrazor stating that they will only allow createObject for CFCs and webservices and will disable all the other forms; the problem is that it still leaves out the ability to create Java objects, which for modern coldfusion apps is a must. Additionally they are disabling SetProfileString() which breaks blogCFC; on their email from this morning they state that the change will be effective tomorrow; I am very disappointed with this company which up until now I had always recommended to everyone, but I guess they decided to throw all that away.

Steve Eller

Oscar - I am in the same boat. I did, however get this response from Daily Razor this morning:

"we care about your business, and we can understand your frustration, and we are really sorry that we can't give you what you need. But as you can understand, we can't leave all as is, because it's a big problem with the security. However, we will leave these functions enabled till Oct, 08 - that's real maximum we can."

Isn't that nice of them?? I'm looking at hostingatoz now. Does anyone have anything good to say about them? On paper, they look like a great deal.

todd sharp

Hand me $30 and watch me light it on fire - that is what you'll feel like if you go with atoz...

Daily Razor is finished in the CF hosting business as far as I'm concerned.

PS - I wasn't going to mention it, but your captcha is nasty here Luis :)

Steve Eller

Todd - who do you suggest then?

todd sharp

I'm going to be careful recommending any host from now on after this debacle.

Personally I'm going strictly with my VPS from now on.

Steve Eller

I understand - I'm leaning towards a VPS myself at this point as well.

The DailyRazor thing screwed me up pretty bad. I see some people above me recommending CrystalTech who I hosted with for about a day when I looked in the FAQs and found out that their idea of hosting multiple domains boiled down to using cflocation, a huge no-no search-engine wise.

What's the current status on this? The info on daily razor you pointed to no longer exists, but I found this, dated 1/21/08:

https://support.dailyrazor.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=293

It says the following:

On the shared ColdFusion servers you will have access to all tags and functions except for the following:

CF Tags: CFCOLLECTION CFCONTENT CFEXECUTE CFLOG CFOBJECT CFOBJECTCACHE CFREGISTRY

CF Functions: SetProfileString CreateObject(COM) CreateObject(CORBA) CreateObject(JAVA)

No java is a showstopper. Is that actually true?

Luis Majano

Yea, I believe that is true. I switched from them because it made no sense for me to have coldfusion hosting where I can't use the full extent of the language. There is no excuse not to let the usage of java classes.

sparkpool

That's too bad. If you don't mind my asking where did you end up hosting, and are you happy with them?

Luis Majano

I went with kickassvps.com I decided to get my own VPS. It seemed pretty affordable
