Our July CFUG meeting is coming up shortly, and by popular demand we have

once again arranged to have Kalen Gibbons (Flex Guru) lead another hands-on workshop on Flex. For those who missed it, his first Flex workshop back in November of last year was a fantastic session, and served as a great introduction to RIA development using the Flex framework. This time around Kalen will be covering connecting to a ColdFusion back end from a Flex application.

Please see here the iecfug press release-

At this point we are intending to hold the meeting next Thursday, July

9th, at the regular time of 7:00 pm. It is possible that this may

change, as our sponsor at Cal Poly will be on vacation, so we are

currently trying to nail down the details of when a substitute will be

available. For the same reason, the room location for the meeting is

still undecided -- we will post the final details once they are

We will have the usual pizza, soft drinks and our book raffles!! We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Review of Flex vs Silverlight Debate at Cal Poly Pomona

I completely forgot to post about this and post a link to the event we hosted at Cal Poly Pomona last month between Adobe and Microsoft. The debate was excellent and we had great attendance for the IECFUG. We where able to get more students and interest in our ColdFusion User Group and hopefully get to recruit some more after an awe inspiring presentation by Kevin Hoyt.

Unfortunately, I won't say anything bad about Microsoft because I won a copy of Vista Ultimate! :) (hmm, what did I do with it?)

If you want to see the video for yourself and see how the debate was laid out see who won, check this link out:

Railo Visiting the IECFUG in Cal Poly Pomona!

If you are in the OC area or the Inland Empire, we would like to invite you to our CFUG this coming Friday, August 1st 2008 at 7PM. We will be hosting Gert Franz on an incredible Railo Presentation. You can find more information about our CFUG and our location by visiting our website. We meet at Cal Poly Pomona University in Room 98C 4-27 (campus map)

Railo ( is a CFML engine that runs on a wide variety of Java servlet engines, and provides a cost-effective, high performance alternative to using Adobe's ColdFusion engine. As you may have heard, at the Scotch on the Rocks ColdFusion conference in Scotland in June, Railo announced that they are partnering with JBoss to convert their software to a completely free, open-source offering.

Gert Franz, CEO of Railo and member of the recently founded CFML advisory committee, will be visiting to present an overview of Railo, and what the advantages of using Railo are for CFML developers. He’ll also be talking about the upcoming open-source conversion of Railo, and what that means for the community and the developers. Of course, Gert will have some free versions of the Railo software to hand out, and some other goodies as well.
