once again arranged to have Kalen Gibbons (Flex Guru) lead another hands-on workshop on Flex. For those who missed it, his first Flex workshop back in November of last year was a fantastic session, and served as a great introduction to RIA development using the Flex framework. This time around Kalen will be covering connecting to a ColdFusion back end from a Flex application.
Please see here the iecfug press release- http://www.iecfug.com
At this point we are intending to hold the meeting next Thursday, July
9th, at the regular time of 7:00 pm. It is possible that this may
change, as our sponsor at Cal Poly will be on vacation, so we are
currently trying to nail down the details of when a substitute will be
available. For the same reason, the room location for the meeting is
still undecided -- we will post the final details once they are
available.
We will have the usual pizza, soft drinks and our book raffles!! We look forward to seeing everyone there!

We are fortunate to have Josh Adams from Adobe as our presenter for
the evening:
Josh Adams is Senior System Engineer & ColdFusion Specialist at Adobe
Systems Incorporated. In this role, Josh supports the ColdFusion sales
team throughout North America. Josh is passionate about ColdFusion and
the ColdFusion community: he presents regularly to User Groups and
conferences throughout North America and is a longtime member, past
President, and current Director of the Atlanta ColdFusion User Group.
Josh will be speaking about what's coming up in both the ColdFusion
and Flex realms, so this promises to be a jam-packed session:
The Adobe ColdFusion team is hitting the road to discuss Centaur, the
next version of ColdFusion, and Bolt -- code name for the highly
anticipated first ColdFusion IDE from Adobe. Learn about exciting new
features and discover how Centaur and Bolt will accelerate your
ColdFusion application development.
Come learn about the newest features in the Flex 4 framework, Flex
Builder 4 and the newest Adobe product -- Flash Catalyst. See product
feature demos, and learn how the new Flex framework powers both Flash
Catalyst and Flex Builder to speed the development and testing of rich
Internet applications and content.
We're going to have plenty of food and drink, as well as some great
giveaways, including Adobe software. This promises to be a fantastic
evening that you won't want to miss!
I completely forgot to post about this and post a link to the event we hosted at Cal Poly Pomona last month between Adobe and Microsoft. The debate was excellent and we had great attendance for the IECFUG. We where able to get more students and interest in our ColdFusion User Group and hopefully get to recruit some more after an awe inspiring presentation by Kevin Hoyt.
Unfortunately, I won't say anything bad about Microsoft because I won a copy of Vista Ultimate! :) (hmm, what did I do with it?)
If you want to see the video for yourself and see how the debate was laid out see who won, check this link out:

Come join us for The battle for control of the future of computing debate at
7 PM (PST/GMT +8) on Thursday, February 12 in the Bronco Student
Center (Ursa Minor) at California State Polytechnic University in
Pomona. Microsoft Corp. and Adobe Systems Inc. will present their
contenders for whose technologies will dominate. Adobe (maker of
Photoshop, Flash and Dreamweaver) is encouraging developers to create
media-rich desktop computer applications that operate independently of
the Internet through its Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR). Microsoft
wants developers to create media-rich applications that can be used
online through its Silverlight technology.
Sam Stokes, academic developer/evangelist at Microsoft Corporation and
Kevin Hoyt, platform evangelist at Adobe will represent the two sides.
The free event is sponsored by the Interactive Web Development Student
Association, the Computer Information Systems department in the
College of Business Administration and the Inland Empire ColdFusion
User Group and will be streamed live over the Internet. Pizza,
refreshments and a free drawing for multimedia software will be
provided.
If you can't make it in person, you can watch it live or afterwards at

RSVPs to [email protected] are encouraged
Parking will be $5.00 at Cal Poly Pomona Parking Structure.
Railo (www.railo-technologies.com) is a CFML engine that runs on a wide variety of Java servlet engines, and provides a cost-effective, high performance alternative to using Adobe's ColdFusion engine. As you may have heard, at the Scotch on the Rocks ColdFusion conference in Scotland in June, Railo announced that they are partnering with JBoss to convert their software to a completely free, open-source offering.
Gert Franz, CEO of Railo and member of the recently founded CFML advisory committee, will be visiting to present an overview of Railo, and what the advantages of using Railo are for CFML developers. He’ll also be talking about the upcoming open-source conversion of Railo, and what that means for the community and the developers. Of course, Gert will have some free versions of the Railo software to hand out, and some other goodies as well.
