WSCandis at RIAForge! Web Services Directory Solution

Posted by Luis Majano

My good Friend Oscar Arevalo, from Home Portals fame and CFEmpire has now released another incredible application, WSCandis.

WSCandis is a caching and directory solution especially tailored for enterprise environments in which client applications rely on a layer of webservices that may be located on separate locations. In these environments applications are often deployed from one or more development servers to one or more production servers.

The Webservices Caching and Directory Service (wscandis) tries to address the following issues:

The need of applications that act as webservices clients to have the webservice WSDL address hardcoded as part of the application code.

The lack of a single directory of web services used by all applications

Lack of a consistent naming scheme for all webservices (i.e. "com.uvi.general.resorts") regardless of their network location, implementation language and environment.

An application's need to use a different webservice, or the same webservice but on different

locations, based on whether the application is being executed on a development or production

server.

Performance hit on high demand applications due to having to continually instantiate and discard

webservice stubs for each request.

WSCandis tries to solve these problems using a two-part approach: a webservice stub caching mechanism and the use of a central directory and lookup service.

Bye Bye Miami!! Welcome home ESRI, California

I just landed today in Redlands California. My new home!! I will be starting my new employment at ESRI the following week and my new adventures have just started. I landed in the afternoon and headed for my new apartments to check them out. Once I got there, man, what a dump!! It is really hard to decide on a place by just looking at pictures. I decided to get the *&(&# out of there. Panic soon ensued, my van line from Florida is arriving in three days and I have no home. I soon turned out to three locations and found a decent place. Tomorrow I go apartment scouting and hopefully find a suitable location by tomorrow.

A part from that, the area is very nice, the weather is completely amazing in comparison to Miami's hot and humid nastiness. The temperature right now is about 51 degrees and it is awesome. I can finally wear sweaters and cold weather clothes.

Anyways, just a quick post to say goodbye to 12 years of living in Miami and welcoming a new era at ESRI in Redlands, CA. I believe good things are about to happen, I am excited and can't wait to start developing!!!

Bye Bye Miami!!!

I excited to announce that I have accepted a senior web development position at ESRI (www.esri.com) The Geoghraphical software giants, and will be starting mid-November. I am truly excited to start work at this great company and with so many great engineers. I hope they like ColdBox!! jejeje :)

I thank Sandals for all the time they gave me, the opportunity to shine and bring forward more Object Oriented Coldfusion than they ever imagined possible. Thanks for this great 4 years where I have grown and learned.

What an exciting first world cup game.  The tension was high and the game was amazing. Germany played incredibly!! I am afraid of them now!! Costa Rica played awesome too, but their defense was shabby.  What an exciting world cup, I hope all the games are this intense. Gotta go, game 2 is on now.

Finally Blog CFC 4.0.2!!

Jan 08, 2006 00:00:00 UTC
Well, Finally I got some time to update my Blog CFC installation by Raymond Camden to 4.0.2 from my 3.9 install.

I had forgotten how much I had to tweak, with all the layout changes I did. Anyways, Raymond?s code is great and everything is as it should be.

I will be redesigning the whole site soon, but I wanted to get this upgrade out of the way. I am planning on moving the site to my coldfusion framework, TeXtus. Which I will be unveiling in a few weeks.

This will change somehow my blogCFC install, but I am trying to implement it into the site and not a separate app. This way, my site can revolve around many apps, in one single framework.

Anyways, hope you enjoy the upgrade!! And give ray a visit.
