I usually just use the Eclipse SVN integration using subeclipse and I love it. However, I think it is time to install a native OS SVN tool on my Mac. However, I wanted to find out what is the community's favorite tool for this task.

So, what is your favorite SVN tool for Mac OS X and why?

Ernst Van der Linden pointed me out to a great eclipse plugin to use when using ColdBox's Internationalization features. This plugin is the Eclipse Resource Bundles Plugin

This is an incredible plugin that will help you work with multi-language resource bundles right from within eclipse. I Include the Attessor tool with ColdBox to facilitiate the usage of resource bundles, but this tool takes the cake.

  • It shows the property keys as a list or as a tree
  • It shows all the available locales at the same time
  • You can easily see multi-language translations at one time
  • Change languages with ease
  • New Language wizard that will blow your mind
  • If founds missed keys in any locale and displays a warning icon.
  • It saves the keys grouped, in alphabetical order and with the equal signs aligned.
  • It escapes Unicode characters that are not inside the ASCII subset. Example: C\u00F3digo postal for Código postal.
  • It founds duplicate property values.
  • Much More...

What Poll or Survey software or service to use? What is your opinion?

I have been tinkering with the idea of setting up several polls or surveys in order to better get an opinion of the coldbox community. However, I wanted to ask the community what polling software or services they believe are good. I would prefer a solution where I wouldn't have to host it, but more of a service that can generate the HTML for me, sort of like: http://www.questionpro.com/poll-software.html. Or maybe a survey solution would work also.

Anyways, I guess the less maintenance I have, the better. What are your thoughts? What would you recommend as far as polling or surveys goes?

Why Model with UML?

As you all know by know, ColdFusion is an excellent OO platform for web development and as our systems grew in complexity and maintainability we need to plan REALLY WELL!! The best way we can is UML, the Unified Modeling Language. The purpose of the Unified Modeling Language is to provide a language-independent and platform independent modeling notation. UML tools are as versatile as the UML is foundational.

I am so used to modeling in UML now that it is a REQUIREMENT for any project, no matter how small or how big. In that sense, some of you may be beginning to see the benefits of object modeling and may wonder how in the world to start. Well, I found a great article in the NetBeans website that touches on why to use UML and provides some great samples. Although it is directed to the Java developer, I believe a ColdFusion developer can gain some benefit from it.

I have just been using this excellent program called Quicksilver: you can find it in the address below:

http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/

This is a utility for us, Software geeks, that we like to type.

Quicksilver is a unified, extensible interface that lets you easily execute commands and manipulate data across almost every application on your computer.

Using Quicksilver, you can open applications, create an iCal event, play a song on iTunes, or email information from your Address Book to a friend.

You do all this by typing quick commands. Let me tell you this is AWESOME. It can really accelerate your work.

Below is the tutorials section:

http://docs.blacktree.com/quicksilver/tutorials

Please check them out, they will blow your mind.
