Variables scope slower than no scope??

Posted by Luis Majano
Jul 27, 2007 00:00:00 UTC
I have been twiddling with some performance geekness and created a small test to see if direct scoping the variables scope was faster than not scoping it, and I found some very interesting results. Scoping the variables scope was much slower than not doing it. It is shocking but true. Or maybe my test is foolish, judge for yourself and let me know.

Test Results 1:

Iterations: 30

Loops per Iteration: 5000

Avg No variables scope: 20.8333333333 ms

Avg. using variables scope: 43.7333333333 ms

Setup: Windows XP/IIS/CFMX 7.0.2

Test Results 2:

Iterations: 30

Loops per Iteration: 5000

Avg No variables scope: 4.7 ms

Avg. using variables scope: 11.9666666667 ms

Setup: Windows XP/IIS/CFMX 8 GMC

UPDATES:

Test Results 3:

Iterations: 30

Loops per Iteration: 5000

Avg No variables scope: 8.23333333333 ms

Avg. using variables scope: 17.1333333333 ms

Setup: Mac Intel/Apache/CFMX 7.02

Avg No variables scope: #arraySum(records)/iterations# ms

Avg. using variables scope: #arraySum(records2)/iterations# ms

CFFrameworks Recording on ColdBox!

Posted by Luis Majano
Jul 18, 2007 00:00:00 UTC
I just finished today my first presso with CFframeworks on ColdBox and man what an ordeal. The Adobe Connect completely failed on my Mac and rendered it useless. So I had to scramble to export the keynote to powerpoint, copy some files to my PC and try to get something going. So I truly apologize for not sticking to the entire agenda, but technical problems ensued. The worst thing is that I did not have a mic for the PC, so I hijacked a pair of earphones and use that as a microphone, Electrical Engineering 101!!

So overall, at least I had something to show from the PC!! I though I never would have said this, but thank you PC for behaving!!

Hopefully the next one will work on my Mac and all the samples I had. Anyways, I will be posting some scaffolding templates and try to record it.

If anybody wants to donate iShowU I will create more recordings and post them up. Brief tutorials on several features. So please help out.

Anyways, here is the link for the "Incredible" Presso

ColdBox Dashboard Client Variables Error!!

Jul 18, 2007 00:00:00 UTC
If you downloaded the Dashboard and are having problems with the client variables error, then don't worry, its just the clientmanagement setting to true that throws it. I have attached an Application.cfc for you that you can use instead. The next release will include an uncompiled Application.cfc

Sorry for this...

Intro to Adobe AIR + Ebay "San Dimas"

Posted by Luis Majano
Jul 16, 2007 00:00:00 UTC
In this presentation they covered more of the capabilities of AIR, how to use it and much more stuff. Mike, covered how to create an AIR package from a simple Flex Application with Flex Builder 3. Flex Builder 3 looks awesome and the ease of creating the applications is just outstanding. You can also download it from the Adobe Labs. The gears and turning... So beware...

Here is the link to the google doc notes.

The guys from Ebay also demoed their application San Dimas where you have a full integration to your desktop from ebay. WOW!! It was an excellent demo and the app just looks great. As soon as I get a link I will update this.
